Scratch Progamming

Scratch is a visual programming language developed to create animation, games, art, stories etc.It provides various tools such as paint editor, sound editor, etc. for creating different objects loke interactive stories, visual lessons and informational texts.

Scratch was developed by MIT Media Lab, USA.

Terms Associated with Scatch:

Stage — A platform where created effects are visualised.

Sprite — Sprites are objects which appear on the stage.

Backdrop — The background in the scratch programming that give a realistic look to the stage.

Customisation — Adding various actions to a sprite or backdrop.

Motion Block — Block used to set movements in a sprite or a backdrop.

Looks Block — Block used to add different appearances to a sprite viz. think, show, hide, etc.

Sound Block — Blocks used to play different audio effects during an animation.

‘Flag’ — It is clicked to run a sprite program whereas ‘Stop’ is used to halt the execution.

Control Block — It is used to repeat a set of sprites or execute a sprite conditionally.
